Composition per liter:

Ox bile ..............................................................20.0g

Peptone .............................................................10.0g

Na2HPO4...........................................................6.45g

Glucose ...............................................................5.0g

KH2PO4...............................................................2.0g

Brilliant Green ..............................................0.0135g

pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C

Source: This medium is available as a premixed

powder from Oxoid.

Preparation of Medium: Add components to

distilled/deionized water and bring volume to 1.0L.

Mix thoroughly. Distribute into flasks in 100.0mL

volumes. Gently heat at 100°C for 30 min. Do not au

toclave. Cool rapidly to 25°C.

Use: For the cultivation and enrichment of members

of the Enterobacteriaceae in the examination of foods

and animal feed. Used in conjunction with tryptone

soy broth. Bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteri

aceae turn this medium turbid and yellow-green.
