Na2HPO4.............................................................9.5g
KH2PO4...............................................................9.1g
Yeast extract........................................................0.1g
Phenol Red........................................................0.01g
pH 6.8 ± 0.2 at 25°C
Source: This medium is available as a premixed
powder from BD Diagnostics.
Preparation of Medium: Add components to
distilled/deionized water and bring volume to 1.0L.
Mix thoroughly. Do nopt heat. Filter sterilize. Asep
tically distribute into sterile tubes or flasks.
Use: For the differentiation of organisms, especially
the Enterobacteriaceae, on the basis of urease produc
tion. Urease-positive bacteria turn the medium pink.
