Composition per liter:

Mucic acid ........................................................10.0g

Peptone .............................................................10.0g

Bromthymol Blue ...........................................0.024g

pH 7.4 ± 0.1 at 25°C.

Preparation of Medium: Add components to

distilled/deionized water and bring volume to 1.0L.

Mix thoroughly. Add 5N NaOH while stirring until

mucic acid dissolves. Distribute into screw-capped

tubes in 5.0mL volumes. Autoclave for 10 min at 15

psi pressure–121°C.

Use: For the isolation and cultivation of enteroviru

lent Escherichia coli and Shigella species.
